NYIT Hosts Inaugural Pre-Departure Event with Nanjing Campus

NYIT-Nanjing students planning to study in New York this fall participated in a Skype session on April 25 to discuss their expectations for transitioning to campus life in the United States.

New York, N.Y. and Nanjing, China (April 25, 2012) — The NYIT Center for Global Exchange and the Offices of Career Services and International Education held their inaugural pre-departure event for NYIT-Nanjing students planning to study in New York this fall. Students in China gathered at the recently unveiled NYIT Center for Humanities and Culture to participate in the Skype broadcast with NYIT administrators and students in Manhattan.

“It was a great experience and I hope the time spent helped students in China better understand how our different offices can assist with their transition from China to New York,” said NYIT Dean of Career Services John Hyde.

Three NYIT students who had already made the transition from China to the United States—Cindy Haoyue Zhou, Derek Zhijian Tao, and Armstrong Zhixun Weng—facilitated a question and answer session on everything from their initial adjustment to life in New York to the graduate school admissions process in the United States.

“I hope that we can all learn from this positive first experience and move forward with additional events that help prepare our students for their time here in New York,” Hyde added.
