More than 300 incoming freshmen attended the 2012 new student orientation on Aug. 26 at NYIT-Nanjing. The event was hosted by Campus Dean Monique Taylor, Ph.D., and Associate Campus Dean Keh Kwek, Ph.D. All English Language Institute (ELI) instructors and staff were present to welcome the students.
Kwek delivered opening remarks, followed by an overview of the ELI program by Timothy Smith, Ph.D., chair of the Department of English. Tony Lei Tong, associate director of the Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations, and Beverly Butcher, Ph.D., director of the NYIT Center for Humanities and Culture at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT), introduced students to the functions and activities organized by their respective departments.
"It is exciting to welcome this cohort of students to the NYIT/NUPT 3 + 1 dual degree program and to the start of our 2012 English Language Institute," said Taylor. "These students will have a distinct advantage as members of a 21st-century global university, and we wish them well as they begin their studies."
