Gimme an A! The Secrets of College Success is an exciting, multimedia presentation designed to show you all you need to know to succeed in college. Based on the book, The Secrets of College Success – winner of a 2010 USA Book News “Best Book Award”— the hour-long event combines authoritative, high-value tips – all presented by professors – with games, prizes and whole-audience participation that keep students entertained and involved throughout the performance. Free Lunch Voucher for all attendees!
8:30 a.m. – Check in at the NYIT SUNY Residence Halls
Students will be checking into their fall assignments and be able to move their belongings into their new home away from home.
10:30 a.m. – Welcome at the NYIT Campus
Students and families will head over to the main campus at NYIT to begin their Orientation program with a welcome address from the Office of Campus Life.
11:00 a.m. – Discover Your Career Direction – with the Office of Career Services
11:35 a.m. – Parent and Family Session I

2:15 p.m. – Dessert Reception with Staff and Administrators

Students and their families may return to the residence halls to finish unpacking and get settled.
5:00 p.m. – Goodbyes and Good Lucks
Parents and families leave the residence halls as their college student gets to know their fellow residential students and unpacks.
5:30 p.m. – Activities and Dinner for Residential Students
As you will see from Friday’s schedule there are parent and family session only on this day. Saturday’s schedule is only for students.
8:30 a.m. – Travel to NYIT
9:00 a.m. – Continental Breakfast
9:45 a.m. – Morning Energizer
10:30 a.m. – Student Session III
11:30 a.m. – Student Session IV
1:30 p.m. – Field Day Challenge
3:45 p.m. – Return to NYIT SUNY Residence Halls
We will have a bus service to bring students from the residence halls to the NYIT campus on Saturday.

Antonio Figueroa (third year, Health Science major) was excited to receive his prize on Friday, June 8, after being randomly selected as the winner of an iPad upon completing the Old Westbury 2012 SGA Student Life Satisfaction Survey.
Student Government Association President, Robert Hammarberg, put together a student satisfaction survey to gather feedback about improvements that could be made on the Old Westbury campus. The survey was comprised of 20 questions discussing topics ranging from on campus dining to accessing student pride. It was sent out to all 4,698 students of NYIT-Old Westbury and open for a period of two weeks. An astounding 1,229 students responded by the time the survey closed.
Students who participated in the survey had the option of entering themselves in a drawing to win a brand new iPad. Antonio Figueroa was randomly selected as the winner. When Antonio came to retrieve his prize, he stated how he was happy to take part in the survey. There is a hefty amount of data and comments to analyze, which President Hammarberg has already begun to do and looks forward to making changes suggested by student participants over the next year in his second term as SGA President. He would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey!

Faculty and staff members are invited to attend a "Relay for Lunch" event on Tuesday, April 10, 12:30-2 p.m. at the NYIT de Seversky Mansion. The buffet luncheon, donated by NYIT's Dining Services, will support NYIT's Relay for Life on Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. to Saturday, April 21 at 7 a.m. Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's annual 24-hour event to raise awareness about the disease by bringing together families, friends, coworkers, neighbors, students, cancer survivors, and their caregivers. NYIT teams are participating in this important event for the fourth-straight year.
The cost of Relay for Lunch is a $20 minimum donation at the door. Make checks payable to the American Cancer Society. All proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life. NYIT has formed a steering committee to help solicit ideas and input about plans to construct residence halls in Old Westbury.
"Building residence halls on the Old Westbury campus is a project that we've wanted to undertake for many years," said NYIT President Edward Guiliano. "With our land use and financial plans approved by the NYIT Board of Trustees, we are now taking the next steps in having the project come to fruition."
Vice President for Financial Affairs Len Aubrey and Vice President for Information Technology and Infrastructure Niyazi Bodur are co-chairs of the new residence hall project steering committee that will seek comments from students, faculty, staff, and other groups. NYIT has engaged the architectural, engineering, and design firm of Fletcher Thompson to work on the development of the plans. In addition, over the next month, surveyors will be onsite to further develop land use and environmental surveys. Low-flying helicopters and planes will assist.
NYIT will also work closely with the villages of Old Westbury and Brookville to secure necessary approvals and ensure that NYIT remains a good neighbor. University representatives said planning and construction of the residence halls will take several years to complete.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
Although every Relay For Life is different, there are certain traditions at all Relays, no matter where they are held. These traditions help participants celebrate, remember, and fight back.
