|The NYIT Vocational Independence Program (VIP) will host a fall 2012 open house for prospective parents and students. See firsthand how this nationally recognized program has prepared thousands of learning disabled students for a lifetime of success. For more information, visit nyit.edu/vip.
Fast facts about the program include:
- Three-year certificate program for students at least 18 years old who have significant learning disabilities, ADD, or are higher functioning on the autism spectrum.
- Choose from two programs of study:
Vocational - focuses solely on vocational, independent living, and social skills acquisition.
Pre-Degree - qualified students may take credit-bearing college courses at NYIT's Old Westbury campus.
- Extensive personalized support. Each VIP student has an academic counselor, a budget and banking advisor, a vocational counselor, a social counselor, and if necessary, a job coach and an independent living skills coach.
- Students reside on campus in dormitories dedicated solely to VIP and are supervised by specially trained residential advisors. Health care/nursing is available on site.
