|Join the NYIT Student Government Association on a camping trip from Saturday, Oct. 6 to Monday, Oct. 8 in upstate New York. The Frost Valley YMCA offers an atmosphere of learning, community development, and communication enrichment through challenging, hands-on retreat activities on 6,000 acres in the "forever wild" Catskill Preserve. During guided retreats, participants gain skills in conflict resolution and effective communication as well as basic survival skills such as how to use a compass, start a fire, and build a shelter. Other fun activities include a nightly campfire and learning to identify star constellations, rock climbing, archery, and hiking.
Cost is $20 per person. Students may bring one guest. Accommodations are modern wood cabins with working showers. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served each day. Participants are advised to bring the following equipment: a sleeping bag (or bedsheets), hiking shoes, a flashlight, warm clothes for hiking, PJs and other clothes to relax in, and hygienic essentials such as a toothbrush, soap, deodorant, and shampoo.
A bus will depart NYIT-Manhattan (Edward Guiliano Global Center at 1855 Broadway) at 8 a.m. on Oct. 6 and return to campus in the early afternoon on Oct. 8.
