SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Jan. 23, 2012) – Junior Nikki Jo Rotolo (Rome, N.Y.) and sophomore Rebecca Lynch (Hillsdale, N.J.) led the Bears with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while collecting five rebounds each, as NYIT women’s basketball fell in a hard fought game against Le Moyne 63-60 Monday night. With the loss, NYIT’s overall record is 11-7 and the Bears remain 5-2 in conference play.
The Bears took command right away as Lynch knocked down the first jumper of the game. That sparked a 10-2 run by NYIT that was finished with an offensive rebound and put back by Chantel Diaz (West Covina, Calif.). However, after several turnovers and quick fouls, Le Moyne managed to work its way back and tied the game 25-25 going into halftime.
In the second half, Le Moyne jumped out to an early lead and maintained the lead until there was 8:00 left of the game. Then Amber Davis (Mastic, N.Y.) kick-started an NYIT comeback with a three followed by jumpers made by Rotolo and Lynch, and another deep three from Davis. The game was tied at 58-58, causing Le Moyne to call a time out.
After the break, Le Moyne managed to outscore NYIT 5-2 in the final minutes of the game and pulled away with a 63-60 victory on its home court.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 25, when they host Queens College at Recreation Hall on the Old Westbury Campus. The tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
