OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (May 10, 2011) – Former NYIT baseball student-athlete
Steven Faulkner (B.S. ’10) was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Rockford RiverHawks of the Frontier League of Independent Professional Baseball. Faulkner joins former teammates
Kraig Binick (B.S. ‘09),
Mike Roth (B.S. ‘10), and
Andrew Guarrasi (B.S. ‘10), who were also picked up this spring by various organizations.
Faulkner, a true rookie from Bay Shore, N.Y., was a four-year pitcher at NYIT. He went 4-7 with a 9.54 career ERA, tossing 88.2 innings and striking out 67. As a senior in 2010, Faulkner produced a 1-0 record with an 8.27 ERA in 13 appearances, striking out 20. RiverHawks’ manager Rich Austin said he and his Frontier League peers were impressed by Faulkner’s stuff.
“Real positive upside… (Faulkner) throws upper 80s, low 90s,” said Austin. “He’s really smooth, mechanically sound.”
Opening night for the RiverHawks’ 10th season is 7:05 p.m., Friday, May 20, when they host Traverse City. For more information, fans can visit
