Softball makes it 12 wins in a row with double header sweep of Queens

Flushing, NY (May 1, 2010) - The NYIT softball tem increased their season-long winning streak to 12 games with a double header sweep of Queens College this afternoon in East Coast Conference action. Senior Lisa Boystak (Lindenhurst, NY) provided the Bears with the game winning hit in the openere, a solo homerun in the top of the seventh that snapped a scoreless tie and propellled the Bears to a 1-0 win. In the nightcap, Boystak's three run homerun in the first inning helped the Bears to a 15-0 win to complete the sweep. With the victories the Bears close out the 2010 regular season with a 32-21 overall record and 18-10 record in the ECC. This is the third staright season the Beras have won at least 30 games. The Bears, who earned the fourth seed in the ECC tournament, will take on top seeded C.W. Post on Thursday, May 6 at 3:30 p.m. at Dowling College.

Game one turned into a pitchers duel, with NYIT starter, sophomore Jamie Brooker (Callahan, Fla.) allowing just two hits over seven innings. Queen's Bryttne Nelson was eaqually impressive, limting the Bears to just three hits over the first six innings, but Boystak's solo homerun in the top of the seventh proved to be the difference and would be all the offense the Bears would need.

The Bears took an early 1-0 led in the top of the first inning of game two, and Bosytak increased that lead to 3-0 with her second homerun of the day, a two run shot. The Bears plated four runs in the second nd five runs in the third, including a gand slam from junior Nicole Constantatos to build a commanding 12-0 lead.

Brooker eanred her seventh victory of the week as she allowed just four hits and struck out three in three innings of work.
