CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Jan. 9, 2012) - Junior guard Nikki Jo Rotolo (Rome, N.Y.) received her first East Coast Conference weekly honor as she was named Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. Rotolo helped the Bears to a 2-0 week with 14.5 points per game and 10 assists.
Rotolo also had six steals and averaged 4.5 rebounds per game. Against Mercy, she added 12 points to the Bears tally and shot .857 (6-for-7) from the charity stripe. She also had seven assists and four steals. At Molloy, Rotolo led the game with 17 points and had a team-best three assists.
NYIT is 9-4 on the season and is currently tied for first place in the ECC with a 3-0 mark. The Bears have won their last seven of eight games. Rotolo is the second Bear to earn weekly honors from the conference as senior Cierra Baker was twice named Player of the Week on Nov. 21 and Jan. 3.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 11 on the road against the Firebirds of the University of D.C. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
