OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2011) – Russell Holloway (Budd Lake, N.J.) and Kayvon Roberts (Corona, N.Y.) each registered 17 points as NYIT men’s basketball was topped 98-72 by C.W. Post in East Coast Conference action Wednesday night.
Holloway also led the team with seven rebounds, while senior Daniel Berg (Osteras, Norway) chipped in with 15 points. For the Pioneers, Stefan Bonneau posted a game-high 27 points, while reigning ECC Player of the Week Aaron Hall produced a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Pioneers jumped to a quick 14-4 lead with 16:32 to play; yet, the Bears rallied with a 10-3 run to bring the score within three points, 17-14, just two minutes later. However, C.W. Post continued to control the scoreboard and pulled ahead by 10-points, 34-24, on a layup from Hall with 5:53 remaining in the half. The Pioneers led by as many at 19 points, heading into the break with a 49-30 lead.
NYIT was unable to retaliate in the second half as C.W. Post increased its lead to 20+ points for the remainder of the contest. The Pioneers out-shot the Bears 55% to 47% from the field and 93% to 57% from the free throw line. The visitors also dominated on the glass with a 43-to-24 margin.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, Jan. 22 on the road against the Purple Knights of Bridgeport. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Bridgeport, Conn.
