NYIT’s Earns ECC Community Engagement Award of Excellence For “Night Out On The Bears” Event

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (June 14, 2010) - The New York Institute of Technology athletic department is the recipient of the 2010 East Coast Conference Community Engagement Award of Excellence for their “Night Out on the Bears” event. This award is presented annually to the institution that hosts an activity on their campus which embodies the principles of community engagement by building relationships and bridging the gap between campus and community.

An annual event that draws over 100 children to Recreation Hall, the “Night Out on the Bears” gives parents from the community an opportunity to enjoy an evening out while student-athletes and staff care for their children in a safe, healthy, and fun-filled environment, free of charge. The event is held in early December with the idea that parents can get their holiday shopping done without having to worry about their children. Activities include dinner, Arts and Crafts and of course games.

The Bears were recognized at the East Coast Conference Awards Dinner where they received a plaque and a $500 grant to help offset the expenses for the event next year.
