NEW YORK (Apr. 20, 2011) – NYIT junior guard/forward
Cierra Baker (Windsor, Conn.) earned her third postseason honor of the year as she was named to the Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division II first team, it was announced Wednesday by the National Invitational Tournament and the MBWA.
Baker was also recognized on the Daktronics Inc. All-East Region second team and the East Coast Conference first team.
Baker led the ECC in rebounding and steals. She ranked in the top-15 in three additional categories – scoring, field goal percentage and free throw percentage. Nationally, she finished the season tied for third in rebounds per game and ranked 47th overall in points per game. Her rebounds per game mark (12.4) tied the NCAA Division I record for this season.
She led NYIT in points per game (17.5), rebounding (12.4), blocks (12), field goal percentage (.411) and free throw percentage (.757). She registered 19 double-doubles, along with a triple-double in Feb. 23’s victory over Mercy College.
