NYIT Softball Drops Doubleheader To Molloy

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Apr.30, 2011) – NYIT Softball lost both games of a doubleheader to Molloy on Saturday afternoon.

With the win Molloy improved to 37-11 on the season with a 22-6 conference record. NYIT falls to 5-33 on the year with a 3-23 ECC record.

Molloy was led by solid pitching displays by Megan Butterworth and Allison Ryan who each earned a win. Dayna White went 3-for-4 in game two while scoring a run and recording an RBI.

For the Bears, sophomore Lynsey Michaud (Bristol, Conn.) led the team offensively going 3-for-6 on the day with two RBI.

Game 1 – MOLLOY 5, NYIT 0

Molloy got on the scoring going in the second inning. Josette Cavallaro drove in Butterworth with a double to the left center gap to make it 1-0, Lions.

NYIT would rally to load the bases in the fourth inning after back-to-back singles by graduate Marissa Brucculeri (Albertson, N.Y.) and Michaud with one out. However the Bears were unable to get a run in. Butterworth was able to strikeout junior Alexis Tyson (Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Meredith Gerdes (Sioux Falls, S.D.) followed up by lining out to second base to end the inning.

In the fifth inning the Lions rallied again. Singles by Jeana Frey and Alexandra Sydor followed by a homerun from Haley Calderwood made it a 5-0 game. That would be how it ended.

Megan Butterworth earned her 18th win of the season as she kept the Bears bats silent all day. She threw five shutout innings while allowing just two hits on nine strikeouts.

Junior Natasha Milosevich (Torrance, Calif.) took the loss for the Bears on the mound. She was roughed up for five runs over her five innings of work.

Game 2 – MOLLOY 7, NYIT 3

After scoring an unearned run in the second inning to make it 1-0, Molloy rallied again in the third to add four more runs. Nicolette Sinagra drove in the first run with a single up the middle. She would go 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored and one RBI.

In the fourth the Bears would battle back scoring two runs. Lynsey Michaud drove in Milosevich with a double to cut the lead to three making it a 5-2, Molloy. Michaud would strike again in the sixth inning with an RBI single to drive in senior Brigette Kirschmer (Aurora, Colo.) making it a two run game, 5-3.

Molloy would strike right back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Katie Kraus hit a single up the middle to drive in Brittany Tartaro to make it a 7-3 game, which is how it would end.

Allison Ryan threw a complete game for the Lions. She allowed six hits and three runs but none of them were earned.

For the Bears, junior Jackie Enlund (Rocky Point, N.Y.) started on the mound. She threw a complete game but was no match for the Lions. Enlund surrendered 11 hits and seven runs, four of which were earned in the loss.

On Deck

NYIT will play their final game of the season on Tuesday, May 3 against Queens. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
