NYIT Softball Drops Doubleheader To Dowling

 

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Apr.3, 2011) – NYIT softball had a rough Saturday afternoon as they dropped both games of a doubleheader against Dowling.

The Golden Lions owned the day, taking the first game 14-0 and followed that up with an 11-0 victory. With the two loses, NYIT dropped to 4-16 on the season with a 1-5 ECC record. While Dowling improved to 20-2 with a 6-0 conference record.

For Dowling, Emily Slack led their offense going 4-for-6 with six RBI and six runs scored on the day. Jesse Stavola, who started game two, threw a complete game one hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Junior Natasha Milosevich (Torrance, Calif.) was a bright spot in the Bears’ offense. Milosevich went 2-for-4 with two singles and a walk in the doubleheader.

Game 1 – NYIT 0, DOWLING 14

Game one of the doubleheader was controlled by Dowling from start to finish in route to a 14-0 victory.

Kristen Weeks blew the game open for Dowling in the third inning. She hit a double to left center that would drive in two runs to make it 4-0 Dowling. Stephanie Tarango had a big game for the Golden Lions going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Tarango hit a two-run homerun to make it a 14-0 game, which is how it ended.

Milosevich went 2-for-2 with two singles in the game for NYIT. But she received little help as the Bears bats remained quiet.

Felicia Mendoza kept the Bears offense in check all game. Mendoza allowed only three hits with three strikeouts to earn her ninth win of the season.

Game 2 – NYIT 0, DOWLING 11

The Bears did not fare much better in game two as they faced a 11-0 loss.

Jesse Stavola was the star of the game for Dowling. She threw a complete game one hitter with 11 strikeouts as she cruised to her seventh win of the year.

Emily Slack provided all the offense Stavola would need for Dowling. Slack went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and five RBI. In her final two at-bats she hit homeruns including a grand slam, which made it an 11-0 game.

Senior Martha Redondo (Tucson, Ariz.) recorded the Bears only hit of the game. As she singled to right field in the third inning.

On Deck

NYIT will play next on Tuesday, Apr. 5 against Bridgeport at the NYIT Softball Complex.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
