OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Apr. 2, 2011) – Sophomore outfielder Dan Lackner (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) had a tremendous day at the plate as NYIT baseball faced a doubleheader loss to local rival Stony Brook. The Seawolves posted a 6-0 shutout in game won and then dominated with a 10-1 victory in game two.

For the Seawolves, Maxx Tissenbaum went 3-for-8 with two runs and five RBI. He also homered for the second time this season. Stephen Marino scored four of SBU’s 16 runs on the day.
Game 1 – SBU 6, NYIT 0
Junior RHP Nick Tropeano (5-1) earned the complete game shutout in game one. He surrendered just four hits, walked one and struck out 14 Bears for the win.
Stony Brook got on the scoreboard with two runs in the second inning before the game developed into a pitcher’s duel. NYIT had an opportunity to score in the third as Ryan Campbell (Bellmore, N.Y.) hit an infield single and then advanced to third on an Ali Rodriguez (Yorktown, Va.) single up the middle. However, he was caught stealing and third to close out the inning.
The Bears pitching and defense fought hard to hold off the Seawolves and did so until the sixth inning. But before SBU would breakaway with four runs for the win, NYIT had another opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. Carroll opened the side with a hit by pitch and then stole second. He advanced to third as Campbell reached on a Seawolves’ fielding error. However with two outs on the board, neither runner was driven home and the inning came to a close as Rodriguez struck out.
NYIT fought again in the sixth and seventh innings but it was not enough as Stony Brook would win 6-0.
The loss went to freshman RHP Marcos Perez (Bronx, N.Y.). He went 5.1 innings and gave up six runs, only three of which were earned. He was relieved by sophomore Robert Loftus (Massapequa, N.Y.) and James Moussa (Averne, N.Y.), who combined for 1.2 innings. Loftus surrendered just one hit, while Moussa successful retired the side.
Game 2 – SBU 10, NYIT 1
Again, Stony Brook claimed an early 2-0 lead and increased it to 3-0 in the top of the fourth. However, this time NYIT was able to break free and put a run up on the board. In the bottom of the seventh, Lackner hit a leadoff double down the left field line. He advanced to third on an Eric Cos (Coral Gables, Fla.) infield single. Lackner then scored, unearned, on a SBU fielding error. Cos continued to move around the bases as well but was left stranded as shortstop Michael Iglesias (Bronx, N.Y.) grounded out.
Stony Brook would add on three runs in the fifth and a pair in both the seventh and ninth for the final score, while NYIT battle to decrease the gap.
The Bears only other opportunity came in the eighth as Rodriguez singled to left center and advanced to second on a Lackner base hit. However, Cos would ground out into a double play to bring the inning to close.
The battle on the mound went to Tyler Johnson, who tossed 7.0 innings and struck out seven. He gave up just one run off of five Bears hits. The loss was dealt to senior RHP Preston Wasmund (Ajax, Canada). He went 6.0 innings, giving up eight of the Seawolves’ runs. In relief, junior J.C.
