Mavericks Take Two From Bears Softball

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (Apr.19, 2011) – The NYIT Softball team was no match for Mercy on Tuesday afternoon as they dropped both games of a doubleheader.

The Mavericks improved to 14-17 on the year with an 8-10 conference record following the sweep. With the two loses the Bears dropped to 5-28 on the year with a 2-18 conference record.

Game one was all Taylor Gardner for the Mavericks. She pitched a complete game one hit shutout for the Mavericks. Jenna Ausiello and Cheslea Methot each hit homeruns on their way to an 8-0 victory.

Game two was much the same for the Mavericks. They received quality pitching from Mary Sieber and Ausiello was at it again with another homerun in the 12-2 win.

For the Bears, Senior Brigette Kirschmer (Aurora, Colo.) went 2-for-3 in game two of the doubleheader with an RBI and a run scored.

Game 1 – Mercy 8, NYIT 0

The Mavericks proved to be too much for the Bears in game one with the 8-0 win.

Their offense got going in the fourth inning when Ausiello hit a two-run homerun that ignited the offense. In the fifth inning they rallied once again, Cheslea Methot hit a homerun and Taylor Gardner added a two RBI double to make it an 8-0 game, which is how it ended.

For the Bears, Junior Natasha Milosevich (Torrance, Calif.) recorded the only hit of the game. It came in the fourth inning when she singled into right field but was thrown out trying to advance to second base.

Milosevich started for the Bears and was roughed up for eight runs, five of which were earned in the loss.

Taylor Gardner pitched a gem to start off the doubleheader. She threw a complete game allowing only one hit while striking out five on her way to earning the win.

Game 2 – Mercy 12, NYIT 2

Game two was much the same for the Mavericks on their way to a 12-2 victory.

Ausiello was at it once again for Mercy. She went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Her biggest blow of the game came in the second inning when she hit a two-run homerun. Krissy Lacik also had three hits for Mercy with two runs scored and an RBI.

For NYIT, Kirschmer led the offense going 2-for-3. She hit a double to left field in the first inning to get the Bears on the board and would later hit a single in the fifth inning.

Junior Jackie Enlund (Rocky Point, N.Y.) was unable to get out of the second inning as the Mavericks offense tagged her for nine earned runs in the loss.

Mary Sieber went the distance allowing three hits and one earned run to earn the win for Mercy.
