Juniors Lead NYIT Men's Basketball to 74-60 Win Over SNH

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Dec. 14, 2011) - Four Bears posted double-digit points as NYIT men's basketball defeated Southern New Hampshire 74-60 Wednesday evening at Recreation Hall. NYIT (3-6) was paced by junior Kayvon Roberts (Corona, N.Y.), who had a near double-double with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds. 

Roberts also dished out five assists. Classmate Dominic Scurry (Ozone Park, N.Y.) added 16 points and tied the game-high six assists, while junior transfer Antoine Brown (Washington, D.C.) had 12 points and tied the game-high six assists. Rounding out the Bears' top performers was junior transfer Azel Prather Jr. (Glenarden, Md.), who had 15 points and two blocks. 

For the Penmen, Greg DeSantis had 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Elijah Bonsignore added 11 points for SNH.

The Bears quickly took control of the scoreboard with a 10-1 run over the first four minutes of the game. However, the Penmen did chip away at the gap and knotted the score 19-19 on a layup by BJ Cardarelli with 8:45 remaining. The half was tied once more before NYIT pulled away with a 9-4 rally that gave the Bears a 31-25 advantage. The Bears ended the first half on a jumper by Scurry to lead 36-29. NYIT picked up right where it left off and climbed to its largest lead of the night 50-35 on a layup by Brown with 14:14 to play. From there, the Bears never looked back and reached the final tally of 74-60 on a series of free throws by Scurry. 

The Bears return to action on Sat., Dec. 31 on the road against the Golden Falcons of Felician College. NYIT and Felician ring in the New Year with a 2 p.m. tip.
