BRONX, N.Y. (Mar. 8, 2011) - Three different runners scored as NYIT baseball fell 7-3 on the road at Fordham Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Bears dropped to 0-4 on the season.

 

Fordham (9-2) quickly tacked on three runs in the first inning and held NYIT scoreless until the third when Ryan Campbell (Bellmore, N.Y.) was driven home as Effrey Valdez (Flushing, N.Y.) reached on a fielders choive. Campbell walked to get on and advanced to third on a Rob Cafiero (Bethpage, N.Y.) single. The Bears trailed 3-1.

 

After the Rams added another run to close out the third inning, NYIT made it a one run game in the bottom of the fourth. Sebastian Grazziani (Whitestone, N.Y.) opened with a leadoff walk. Eric Cos (Coral Gables, Fla.) then got on base after being hit by a pitch. Both runners were plated as George Carroll (Bayside, N.Y.) doubled down the left field line. Unfortunately the senior catcher, who represnted the game-tying run, was left stranded. 

 

However, Fordham pushed away with two runs in the top of the fourth. The Rams pitching then successfully held off the Bears for the remainder of the contest. Fordham scored its final run of the game in the seventh.

 

The win went to LHP Rich Anastasi (3-0). He pitched three shutouts innings in relief and only gave up one hit, while striking out six. Sophomore RHP Ryan Dillabough (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) faced his first career loss (0-1).

 

NYIT opens its home schedule this weekend with a three-game series against Albany at President's Field. Saturday, March 12 features a double-header at Noon, while Sunday, March 13 is single game at 1 p.m.
