Fessenden Named ECC Rookie of the Week
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Nov. 28, 2011) - NYIT men's basketball freshman Nick Fessenden (Greenlawn, N.Y.) earned his first career honor as he was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league.
Fessenden nearly averaged a double-double with 11.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in two games on the week. He also shot .667 from the field, had two assists, two blocks and two steals. A spark off the bench against Caldwell, he posted 16 points and grabbed six rebounds while shooting .778 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. He also had two steals. At Wilmington, Fessenden added six points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, while dishing out two assists and two blocks.
Additionally, Cierra Baker (Windsor, Conn.) of the Bears' women's basketball team was named to the ECC Weekly Honor Roll.
NYIT men's basketball (1-5) is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 29 when it hosts Nyack College in a non-conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Recreation Hall.
