CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2012) - Redshirt freshman Jahleel Felix (Flushing, N.Y.) was selected for the second time this season as the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office. Felix helped the Bears to a 1-1 week and led in scoring in both games.
Felix averaged a team-best 17.0 ppg as NYIT faced a hard-fought loss at C.W. Post and rallied to defeat Mercy 90-79. He shot 61.9% from the field, 50% from behind the arc and 71.4% from the charity stripe. Felix also had three assists and three steals. At C.W. Post, Felix tied the team-best 12 points while shooting 71.4% from the field. At Mercy, he led with 22 points, dished out three assists, had three steals and shot 57.1% from the field, 60% from behind the arc and 60% from the free throw line.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8 when they host the Firebirds of University of D.C. in a "Purple-Out" for Relay for Life game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Recreation Hall.
