C.W. Post Too Much For NYIT Softball

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr.21, 2011) – NYIT Softball was swept on Thursday afternoon by cross town rival C.W. Post.

The Pioneers won both games easily, taking game one by the score of 8-0 and followed that up with a 13-2 victory to complete the sweep.

With the wins C.W. Post improved to 30-8 on the season with a 16-4 conference record. NYIT falls to 5-20 on the year with a 2-20 ECC record.

For the Pioneers Kendell Bright led the offense. She went 3-for-4 with two homeruns, five RBI and three runs scored on the day. On the mound Christina Berardi earned his 16th win of the season in game one throwing a complete game shutout.

The Bears were led by a pair of seniors. Senior Martha Redondo (Tucson, Ariz.) led the Bears offense going 3-for-4 in the doubleheader with two runs scored and an RBI. While fellow senior Brigette Kirschmer (Aurora, Colo.) went 2-for-3 in game two with an RBI.

Game 1 – C.W. POST 8, NYIT 0

The Pioneers wasted no time getting started in this doubleheader with a three-run rally in the first inning. The rally was powered by back-to-back homeruns by Nicole Hagenah and Kendell Bright who each hit solo shots.

The offense would continue to add runs in each inning of the game and Bright would strike again in the fourth inning. She hit a two-run homerun to make it an 8-0 game which is how it ended.

Christina Berardi shutdown the Bears offense all game, she threw a complete game three hit shutout with five strikeouts. With the win she improved to 16-3 on the year.

For NYIT, Sophomore Lynsey Michaud (Bristol, Conn.) was a bright spot offensively. She went 2-for-2 with two singles on the game. On the mound, Junior Natasha Milosevich (Torrance, Calif.) battled her way through a complete game but was roughed up for eight runs, five of which were earned in the loss.

Game 2 – C.W. POST 13, NYIT 2

NYIT was out of game two very quickly as C.W. Post rallied for nine runs in the first inning.

The Pioneers started the game with the first eight batters all reaching base safely with all eventually scoring on their way to nine runs on the inning.

The offense was spread out across the board as Kendell Bright, Sarah Fisher and Krysta Palazzo each drove in two runs a piece

Sarah Kiser improved to 14-5 on the season with the win in game two. She pitched three innings and allowed just three hits and one run. Hayley Bettles came on to throw two solid innings of relief to close things out.

The Bears were led by Martha Redondo in game two. She hit her second homerun of the season in the third inning and added a single in the fifth to go 2-for-3 in the game. Brigette Kirschmer would drive Redondo in with a single up the middle in the fifth for the Bears to account for the teams two runs.

Junior Jackie Enlund (Rocky Point, N.Y.) was unable to get out of the first inning in the loss allowing seven earned runs.

On Deck

NYIT will play next on Saturday, Apr. 23 at Bridgeport University. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
