WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 11, 2012) – NYIT men’s basketball faced an intense and hard-fought 83-74 on the road at No. 22 University of the District of Columbia Wednesday night. The Bears were paced by juniors Kayvon Roberts (Corona, N.Y.) and Azel Prather Jr. (Glenarden, Md.), who tallied 20 points each.
Prather Jr. added 13 rebounds for game’s only double-double. Junior Dominic Scurry (Ozone Park, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points.
The Bears controlled the scoreboard up until 15:05 in the second half when a three-pointer by Nigel Munson gave the Firebirds their first lead of the game 51-48. The score was tied once more but then another three from Dishawn Bradshaw gave UDC a 58-56 edge with 10:19 to play. From there UDC pushed its lead to 64-59 before NYIT fought back and made it a one-point game 66-65 on free throws by Prather Jr. But that was the closest NYIT would get.
NYIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 when it hosts Dowling College in ECC action. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Recreation Hall. Fans can watch live and listen to Michael Mohr call the play-by-play by logging on to
