Bears Top Clippers 86-71

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 21, 2011) - NYIT women's basketball evened to 2-2 on the season with an 86-71 road victory over Concordia Monday evening. Five Bears registered double-digit points with East Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week Cierra Baker (Windsor, Conn.) leading the way with 19 points and eight rebounds. With the loss, Concordia dropped to 1-3 overall.

"Alex Venuto's three-pointer got us going and we bounced back to win," said head coach Anthony Crocitto. "To have five players in double figures was amazing. We had so many players step up for us today from Demitra Apergis' career performance to Nikki Jo Rotolo's constant improvement and I cannot say enough about the overall play of Sabrinna Moore."

Sophomore Demitra Apergis (Littleton, Colo.) and junior Nikki Jo Rotolo (Rome, N.Y.) added 19 points each as well, with juniors Chloe Johnson (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) and Sabrinna Moore (Flushing, N.Y.) tallied 11 points each.

Concordia quickly took the lead in the first half and held a 10-point lead with 8:17 remaining. However, NYIT responded with a 21-3 rally in a span of 3:44 to take an eight point lead. The Bears then extended their lead and ended the first half in control of the scoreboard 47-33. The closest the Clippers were able to get was within 10-points, 66-56, on a layup by Chanessa Blakemore at 9:05, but the Bears continued to push ahead in the second half. Johnson gave the Bears their largest lead of the night 74-56 with a layup at 6:56 and Moore knocked down the final basket of the game with 17 seconds to play.

Blakemore led Concordia with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds. She was also 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.

NYIT returns to action on Friday, Nov. 25 when it hosts Ohio Dominican. Tip-off is scheduled for Noon at Recreation Hall.
