Bears Fall 83-66 to Knights
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Dec. 4, 2010) –  Sophomore Kayvon Roberts (Corona, N.Y.) led the game with 22 points, but it was not enough as NYIT men’s basketball fell 83-66 to Queens College Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference play. With the loss, the Bears even to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play, while the Knights improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in ECC action.

Seniors Daniel Berg (Osteras, Norway) and Jerrell Walker (Stockton, Calif.) added 15 points and 13 points, respectively, while senior Carl Kindborg (Stockholm, Sweden) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and six assists.

For the Knights, Jeremiah Mordi netted a team-best 17 points, while Anderson Labase and Akim Neverson each had 14 points. Khalil McDonald rounded out the team’s scoring with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Bears started off strong controlling the scoreboard despite the game-equalizing efforts from the Knights. NYIT took its largest lead of four points, 16-12, on a layup from Roberts before back-to-back jumpers from Queens knotted the score, 16-16. The teams then battled point-for-point with each team knotting the score twice. The half was tied 25-25 before Queens produced a 10-3 run to claim a 35-28 lead on a jumper from Neverson. The Knights led 40-32 heading into the second half.

In the second half, Queens College never relinquished the lead despite scoring efforts from Walker, Roberts and Jahari McKnight (El Sobrante, Calif.). The Knights claimed a 13-point edge with 2:50 to play and went on to close out the game on a 7-0 run.

NYIT returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 8 on the road at C.W. Post. Tip off against the Pioneers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
