OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2010) – Four players scored double-figures for but it wasn’t enough as NYIT men’s basketball fell 78-66 to Felician College in its season opener at Recreation Hall.
Dominic Scurry (Ozone Park, N.Y.) and Jerrell Walker (Stockton, Calif.) each dropped 14 points, while junior Jahari McKnight (El Sobrante, Calif.) added 13 points and sophomore Kayvon Roberts (Corona, N.Y.) posted 10 points. Defensively, Scurry pulled down a team-best six rebounds and dished out a game-high five assists.
For the Golden Falcons (1-2), Devon Young led the game with 22 points, while Suquan posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Anthony Green added 18 points for Felician.
The Golden Falcons held the upper hand throughout the game and led by 13, 46-33, going into halftime. The Bears knotted the score twice and held a short lead on three occasions but could not take control of the scoreboard.
In the second half, the Bears outscored the Golden Falcons 33-32 but it wasn’t enough of a comeback to win the game. McKnight scored all 13 of his points in the second half. NYIT rallied to cut the gap down to six points, 67-61, on a three-point play from Walker but that’s the closest the Bears would get as the Golden Falcons went on to win 78-66.
NYIT returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 27 at home against Wilmington College (Del.). Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Recreation Hall.
