Bears Baseball Falls 14-4 to Owls

AMBLER, Pa. (Mar. 19, 2011) - NYIT baseball faced a tough 14-4 loss on the road at Temple on Saturday. Four different Bears scored as NYIT bumped to 1-8 overall.

Juniors Ryan Campbell (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Sebastian Grazziani (Whitestone, N.Y.) each scored one and drove in one, while sophomore Dane Hardy (Willingboro, N.J.) and senior George Carroll (Bayside, N.Y.) tallied a run each.

The Bears took the first lead of the game, scoring one run in the second before the Owls knotted the score in the third. Left fielder Hardy (Willingboro, N.J.) scored on a Grazziani single to center field.

Temple then pulled away in the fifth, posting four runs on four hits in the frame. The Owls continued to push forward as NYIT struggled to plate more Bears. Temple claimed a staggering 10-1 lead in the sixth after posting six runs.

NYIT scattered 13 hits, but only a few were timely and effective to drive in additional runs. In the seventh, NYIT was able to tack on three more runs but it was not enough as the deficit was too great. Carroll scored on a Steve McNamara (Levittown, N.Y.) single and was followed by Grazziani, who was plated on a Cambpell base hit. The final run for the Bears was registered by Campbell, who scored on a Jerry Smith (Nesconset, N.Y.) single.

Freshman John Duggan took the loss for NYIT, giving up five runs and 10 hits over 4.2 innings of work.

NYIT brings play at the Big Five Baseball Bash to a close on Sunday, Mar. 20 against La Salle. First pitch is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
