CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Jan. 3, 2012) - For the second time this season, senior Cierra Baker (Windsor, Conn.) was recognized by the East Coast Conference as its Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. Baker led NYIT to an 84-80 upset of then-No. 12 Assumption last week.
Baker averaged a weekly double-double while NYIT went 2-0 last week. She averaged 21.5 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game with six assists and seven steals. She shot 60% from the field, 50% from behind the arc and 55.6% from the charity stripe.
In the Bears upset of then-No. 12 Assumption, Baker led the game with 28 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 70.6% from the field and 57.1% from the free throw line. She also had four assists and three steals. Against Division III opponent St. Joseph's (L.I.), Baker earned her eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
For her efforts this season, Baker has also twice been named the East Region Star of the Report.
The Bears are now 8-4 on the season and 2-0 in ECC play after a 83-69 win over Mercy Tuesday afternoon. NYIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 7 on the road at Molloy.
