18 Student-Athletes Inducted into Phi Eta Sigma

 

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (May 20, 2011) – New York Institute of Technology honored academic excellence among its first-year students on March 9 with the eighth class to be inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma, a national freshman honor society. Of the 774 students recognized, 18 represented NYIT’s 12 intercollegiate athletic programs.
 
“On behalf of the entire athletes department, I would like to profoundly congratulate the 18 student-athletes who earned a place among the freshman scholars. This has been a banner year for NYIT athletics academically. Congratulations to all of the recipients who earned their way into Phi Eta Sigma.”
 
Men’s lacrosse and baseball each had three student-athletes recognized, while men’s basketball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer had two Bears honored. To qualify for membership, students must receive a 3.5 or higher grade-point average during the fall or spring semester of their freshman year.

The oldest and largest freshman honor society, Phi Eta Sigma was founded in 1923 and has more than 365 chapters with more than 975,000 members. NYIT inducted its first students into Phi Eta Sigma in 2004.
