Lynch, Scurry and Rotolo Headline Bears of the Week

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Jan. 27, 2012) - After each week of competition, three NYIT student-athletes will be selected as members of the Bears of the Week list. Weekly selections are chosen from scheduled games starting from each Friday to the following Thursday. Nominations will take into account notable statistics, weekly awards received and/or personal accomplishments achieved both on and off the playing fields. Coaches who reach career milestones will also be considered for this honor. This week's recipients are Rebecca Lynch (Hillsdale, N.J.) and Nikki Jo Rotolo (Rome, N.Y.) of women’s basketball, and Dominic Scurry (Ozone Park, N.Y.) of men’s basketball.

Week 4: Friday, Jan. 20 - Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012

Rebecca Lynch, junior, Women’s Basketball
Lynch scored a season-high 22 points along with seven rebounds in a 66-63 win at Bridgeport (Jan. 21). She added 12 points against LeMoyne (Jan. 23) and 14 points against Queens College (Jan. 25), wrapping up a week where she shot a combined 22-for-32 from the field. Lynch is amongst the most accurate shooters for the Bears this season, carrying a .459 percentage in 16 games.

Dominic Scurry, junior, Men’s Basketball
In a 79-75 overtime win at Bridgeport (Jan. 21), Scurry led the team in three categories with a season-high 21 points, 11 rebounds and six assists on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. The junior guard led the Bears in the scoring column again with 15 points in a win over Queens College (Jan. 25). Scurry is averaging 13.1 points per game in 14 starts this season.

Nikki Jo Rotolo, senior, Women’s Basketball
Rotolo helped the Bears to a road win over Bridgeport (Jan. 21) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. In a 63-60 effort at LeMoyne (Jan. 23) and a dominant 78-56 win at home against Queens College (Jan. 25), she was the leading scorer both times with 13 points and 19 points, respectively.
