"Public Housing Myths: Beyond Victims and Villains", co-edited with Professor Lawrence Vale (MIT's Ford professor of Urban Design and Planning and former head of MIT's Department of Urban Studies and Planning) and Fritz Umbach (associate professor at John Jay), an edited collection of both new and existing essays will not only introduce audiences to the groundbreaking range of public housing topics and issues transnationally, but also present the case for the revisionist approach to the field.
With students in mind, "Public Housing Myths: Beyond Victims and Villains" avoids plodding chronology and is organized instead thematically around twelve popular preconceptions about public housing and the people who call it home. In particular the book will challengethe narratives of inevitable decline, architectural determinism, and rampant criminality that have shaped earlier accounts. Publication scheduled for late 2013.
