Melanie Li Foo Wing, Interior Design Student Receives DC Award

Interior Design student, Melanie Li Foo Wing received an Honorable Mention for her contract and residential projects entered in the Decorators Club 17th Annual Scholarship Awards and Exhibition.  Melanie is a junior and one of three NYIT students chosen by the Interior Design department to submit work for this competition.  "The space evoked elegance," was one of the praises used to describe her presentation.

A monetary award was presented to Ms. Li Foo Wing at the event that took place on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the New York Design Center, 200 Lexington Avenue, NYC.  Three categories of scholarship awards were being presented; the Decorators Club Scholarship (1st, 2nd & 3rd Place), the Elsie May Gross Award and the Jacqueline Beymer Scholarship.  The nominees had to be sophomore or junior year students enrolled in an accredited interior design degree program.  Each participating college selects two students for the Club Scholarship and one student for the Elsie May Gross Scholarship.  Nominees are selected based on demonstrated design talent, academic achievement and collegiality.  The NYIT Interior Design department selected Melanie Li Foo Wing, and Jordan Sherman to submit work for the DC Scholarship and Elzbieta Farahmandpour for the Elsie May Gross award.  All students had beautiful and competent submissions.

Li Foo Wing, who is originally from Mauritius, has been a student a student at NYIT since 2008.  She also competes on the school's Volleyball team.  “I had to really manage my time with volleyball and my other classes,” said Li Foo Wing. “It was tough.  I knew it would be a lot of work, but I really wanted to submit my projects."

“Melanie is very inventive, persistent and creative,” said NYIT adjunct professor Adegboyega Adefope, who mentored the students throughout the competition. “She is very talented.  The honor is a reflection of her hard work and dedication.”
