Vancouver Campus Offers New Master's Programs

Vancouver, Canada (Sept. 27, 2013) – New York Institute of Technology is adding new Master’s degree offerings to its programming at the Vancouver campus. The Minister of Advanced Education of British Columbia has granted consent for NYIT to offer a program leading to a Master of Science in Information, Network, and Computer Security (M.S.-INCS) and to add two optional concentrations, one in Finance and one in Tourism, to the Master of Business Administration that the university has delivered in Vancouver for the past decade.

“Cyber security is regularly in the news as a major concern for all organizations that rely on computer systems and computerized databases, from national governments and multi-national corporations to small single-person companies,” said Martin Gerson, Ph.D., Executive Director and Dean of NYIT-Vancouver.  “As a world leader in cyber security studies and research, NYIT hosts an annual cyber security conference in New York and has offered the M.S.-INCS program at its New York campuses for almost a decade. We are very excited that this leading-edge program will be available to students in Vancouver.”

The M.S.-INCS degree, offered by NYIT's School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, will be one of only three such programs in Canada, and the only one in Western Canada, offering a master’s degree specifically designed to prepare graduates to address cyber security issues either by taking on leadership roles within IT departments of larger organizations or to work as consultants who help small companies ensure a secure IT environment. The program is accepting applications now for its first intake of students in March 2014.

Gerson also said the MBA finance and tourism concentrations, offered by NYIT's School of Management, are tied to NYIT's mission to offer career-oriented education.

“As Vancouver increases its position on the world stage—and as more and more of the world’s business and financial elite are making Vancouver their choice of city in which to live and from which to do business—an M.B.A. with a concentration in finance is becoming increasingly in demand.  And Vancouver’s position as one of the world’s great tourist cities makes the concentration in tourism a welcome addition to our already highly regarded M.B.A.,” said Gerson.
