The Egyptian Consul General Visits NYIT

New York, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2011) – Egypt is preparing for elections for parliament in November, while striving for law and order in the country, Egyptian Consul General Youssef Zada said Thursday in an interactive session with NYIT students.

After students watched an emotional video set in the middle of the Egyptian protests in Jan. 2011, Zada spoke about the events as a “revolution against frustration.” He referred to the protests as part of the “Arab Awakening,” when many people in countries throughout the Middle East organized demonstrations for rights against corrupt governments.

“As diplomats, we consider ourselves people who serve our country regardless of the regime in the power,” said Zada at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, explaining his role after the former president of Egypt, Hosni Mubarak, resigned in January 2011.

After the parliamentary elections this year, Zada predicted the country will hold presidential elections next spring, while working on the framework for a new constitution.
