Take a Ride in the Career Cab and Win a Prize

Old Westbury, N.Y. (March 11, 2011) – Students will be quizzed on trivia as they ride in hybrid cars on NYIT’s Old Westbury campus with the launch of the “Career Cab” starting Tuesday, March 15 .

Inspired by the popular trivia show Cash Cab on the Discovery Channel, the Career Cab will quiz students about career services, green energy and technology, and electric vehicles as they are driven to destinations on campus. Students who correctly answer the trivia questions posed by volunteers from the Office of Career Services and the NYIT Green Careers Network will be entered into a raffle to win a Netbook laptop and other prizes.

“By teaming up with Career Services, we are able to educate students about green energy, environmental technology, and green jobs in a creative way,” said Steven Maybloom, graduate student in the energy management program and president of the NYIT Green Careers Network, a networking group for students and alumni interested in engineering, energy, and environmental technology careers and opportunities.

The Career Cab will drive around campus for three weeks, leading up to NYIT’s All Majors Job and Internship Fair, to be held on Thursday, April 7, at the Sports Complex at NYIT-Old Westbury.

“The Career Cab is a great way to make students aware of the upcoming Career Fair while building excitement about job opportunities and networking with employers,” said Charlene DeGregoria, director of career services.

The Career Cab is a collaboration between the Office of Career Services and the NYIT Green Careers Network, and is sponsored by alumnus David Schieren (M.S. ’06), CEO of EmPower Solar, which funded the initiative.
