NYIT Receives Multiple Awards for Excellence in Communications and Marketing

Old Westbury, N.Y. (May 4, 2010) –
New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has won several international awards recognizing the efforts of its Office of Communications and Marketing in Web site development, video production, reporting, and collateral materials.

Astrid Awards: NYIT was awarded for excellence in design in the 20th International Astrid Awards Competition, which judges entries on the basis of concept, creativity, message clarity, and production. As a gold winner, NYIT is now entered in the Grand Award Winners competition, which will be announced later this month. NYIT received:
•    Gold prize for its undergraduate, graduate, and transfer brochures;
•    Bronze prize for “I Graduate” print campaign, which features NYIT’s forward-thinking, professional education by highlighting students referencing top business leaders.

Fair Media Council Folio Awards: NYIT Magazine and NYIT’s LI News Tonight, a nightly television newscast produced at NYIT’s Old Westbury campus that is aired on cable TV in Nassau and Suffolk counties, won a combined three Folio Awards from the Fair Media Council, which honors the best in the New York metro area news media and social media, as decided by the public.
•    NYIT Magazine won award for long feature story in newspaper/magazine news for “Sentries of the 21st Century” (Fall 2009 issue) written by David McKay Wilson and edited by Michael Schiavetta,
•    LI News Tonight won an award in the category of educational TV reporting for “Misunderstood Friends,” by Rebecca Wenner, Clareese Hill, and Ken Eckhardt, and an award for long form television feature for “The Do’s and Don’ts of Day Care: Part 1 and Part 2” by Denise Harelick, Ken Eckhardt, and Gary Licker.

Summit Creative Awards: NYIT also won two Summit Creative Awards for video production, which recognizes creative excellence in companies and individuals throughout the world with budgets under $30 million. NYIT received:
•    A gold award for its green/sustainability marketing video, “Green Print 3.0;”
•    A bronze award for “First-Year Medical Students,” a video prepared by the Carleton Group, NYIT’s student-run advertising agency, coordinated by Michael Hampton, multimedia assets manager at NYIT, faculty advisor John Hanc, and students Jason Burnett, Maggie McKee, Chris McKenna, Matt De Martini, and Mike Manusama.

Interactive Media Council Award: In addition, NYIT was awarded by the Interactive Media Council (IMC) with an award for Outstanding Achievement in Education for its new cutting-edge Web site,, which features contemporary technology, greater functionality, and also encourages student involvement via the use of social media.

"To receive international recognition for sharing the unique stories of our students, communicating the value of an NYIT degree, and showcasing the opportunities for NYIT students both in and out of the classroom is incredibly rewarding," said Jacquelyn Nealon, Ed.D., vice president for enrollment, communications and marketing at NYIT. "I am especially proud that our students received such an elite award for their hard work and outstanding achievement."
