NYIT Director of Transfer Evaluations, Alexander Ott, Named President-Elect of NYSTAA

Alexander Ott

Old Westbury, N.Y. (June 22, 2010) – New York State Transfer and Articulation Association (NYSTAA) announced that Alexander Ott, director of transfer evaluations at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), is its new president-elect.

Ott’s new position is a three-year commitment, which includes one year each as president-elect, president, and immediate past president. As president-elect, Ott will oversee all standing NYSTAA committees, collect regular reports from committee chairs, report to the executive board in the absence of a committee chair, and preside at board meetings in the absence of the president. As president, Ott will be the spokesperson for NYSTAA, preside at board meetings and at the annual conference and business meeting, and perform all other duties pertaining to the Office of the President.

“I am honored to be chosen as president-elect of NYSTAA,” said Ott. He noted that “with growing student mobility in higher education, organizations like NYSTAA play an increasingly important role in facilitating transfer by addressing transfer issues, building formal and informal ties between institutions, and improving the skills and knowledge of transfer professionals.” Ott pledged his full effort “to help NYSTAA play this important role of facilitating transfer in New York State.”

Ott has been active in NYSTAA since 2000 as a member of its executive board, co-chair of its issues committee, and member of its technology committee. He received the NYSTAA Distinguished Service Award in 2009 and has participated in and presented at numerous association conferences.

“As NYIT's director of transfer evaluations, Alex has demonstrated outstanding leadership and transformed the way we serve our transfer students,” said Jacquelyn Nealon, Ed.D., vice president for enrollment, communications and marketing at NYIT. “He has successfully held numerous committee and leadership posts within NYSTAA, and it is a natural evolution for him to have been selected as the incoming president.”

Ott has worked at NYIT since 2000 in the transfer evaluations department of the office of admissions, most recently as director of evaluations. As director, he is responsible for implementing policy and procedures for the evaluation of transfer credits, fostering intercollegiate transfer between other institutions and NYIT, and advising prospective and current NYIT students regarding transfer credit. Ott is currently a doctoral candidate in Fordham University’s Educational Leadership program.
