NYIT Raises Thousands at Relay for Life

Old Westbury, N.Y. (May 2, 2011) – The NYIT community raised more than $40,000 for the American Cancer Society, as students, faculty, staff, and friends gathered for 24 hours starting on Friday, April 29, for the third Relay for Life on the Old Westbury campus.

Two cancer survivors shared their stories during the night to inspire walkers and runners as they rounded a track on the President's Field to symbolize the fact that cancer never sleeps. Carlos Munoz, an architecture student, and Linda Spangler, an admissions representative, spoke about their experience as survivors to the more than 500 others who celebrated the lives of people who have battled cancer, remembered loved ones, and supported research to fight the disease.
