NYIT Celebrates Class of 2010 Graduation at its Bahrain Campus

Manama, Bahrain (June 7, 2010) – New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) celebrated the graduation of 238 students at its Bahrain campus on June 7, 2010. More than 1,600 guests gathered at Bahrain’s Gulf Hotel to celebrate the 59 master's degree graduates and 179 baccalaureate graduates in NYIT-Bahrain’s Class of 2010.

NYIT dignitaries traveled from New York to attend the event, including President Edward Guiliano; NYIT Board of Trustees Chairperson Linda Davila; Roger Yu, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; John Hyde, dean of career services; and Joe Fortine, director of alumni relations. NYIT-Bahrain Campus Dean Dottie Milligan Lewis served as grand marshal and NYIT-Bahrain Dean of Students Reginald Braggs led the faculty processional.

President Guiliano thanked government officials and NYIT partner Dr. Mohammed Hussein for their support and conferred degrees on the graduating class. In his keynote speech, he told the graduates that “today you take your place as citizens of the empire of knowledge … and in the empires of the mind, your bachelor's or advanced degree will help you weather downturns and in fact will pay enormous benefits – both personal and financial.”

Following Dr. Guiliano’s speech, graduates Sakina Abid and Noora Alcortright addressed the Class of 2010. Fortine officially welcomed the graduates as the newest alumni of NYIT and, together with President Guiliano, announced new initiatives in alumni services, including the appointment of a dual career services-alumni administrator in Bahrain.

NYIT-Bahrain’s graduation ceremony was a part of NYIT’s 49th annual commencement, encompassing its 4,000 graduates from all campuses on Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the Old Westbury, N.Y. campus. NYIT also has campuses in Abu Dhabi, Canada, China, Jordan, and Manhattan.

Since 2003, NYIT has been offering degree programs in Bahrain's capital city of Manama. NYIT-Bahrain offers degree programs in computer graphics, interior design, management, and engineering and computing sciences.
