NYIT-Vancouver M.B.A. Students Command 1st Place in Worldwide GLO-BUS Business Simulation Challenge

VANCOUVER, MAY 1, 2008-A team of five M.B.A. students at New York Institute of Technology's Vancouver campus tied for first place in the worldwide GLO-BUS, Inc. online business simulation game during the week of March 17-23, 2008. The NYIT team triumphed over 1,794 teams from 92 colleges and universities from around the world.

The online simulation, created by the McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., challenges teams of students to run a digital camera company in head-to-head competition. Company operations parallel those of actual digital camera companies, and the teams compete in a global market arena, selling digital cameras in four geographic regions-Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. The student groups are judged on four performance variables: overall score (relating to shareholder and industry expectations), earnings per share, return on equity, and stock price.

"We are very proud of the dedication and hard work of these M.B.A. students, and of their ingenuity in winning this highly competitive challenge," says Bradley Krause, dean of the NYIT Vancouver campus. "Their coursework and understanding of the worldwide marketplace has given them the ability to compete in a global arena. The skills that they learn in the classroom have translated seamlessly to a real-world simulation."

The students on the winning NYIT team -- Chuang-Cheng Chen, Min-Hung Cho, Wan-Ping Huang, Cheng-Hung Su, and Andrea Tsai -- were supervised by Dr. Abram Poczter, one of the many New York-based NYIT professors who teach at the Vancouver campus. The GLO-BUS project was part of Poczter's spring 2008 MGMT-690 business policy seminar, which M.B.A. students take in their final semester.
