Get Hired at the NYIT Career Fair

Old Westbury, N.Y. (March 31, 2011) – Representatives from more than 80 businesses, non-profit organizations, and graduate schools will meet students and alumni at NYIT’s All Majors Job and Internship Fair on Thursday April 7, at the Sports Complex at NYIT-Old Westbury from noon to 3 p.m.

Job-seekers interested in dozens of fields will be able to connect with employers ranging from hospitals, architecture firms, media companies, and other major organizations. They will learn about part-time, full-time, and summer hiring needs, and can network with professionals while exploring graduate school programs.

The job fair comes at an upbeat time for college students seeking positions. Employers expect to hire 21 percent more new college grads this year compared to last year, according to preliminary results of the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ Job Outlook Spring Update survey.

“We have found that employers generally want to invest in candidates who bring a breadth of knowledge and skills, and those who can wear many hats,” said Amy Bravo, director of experiential education and employer outreach at NYIT. Bravo added that career counselors at NYIT address the importance of developing skills and abilities by offering a variety of programs and courses.

More than 450 students and alumni are expected to attend the Career Fair. These students are preparing for job and internship searches as the spring semester winds down.

“We are seeing more than a 50 percent increase in the students and alumni visiting our office for resume critiques compared to last year at this time,” said John Hyde, dean of career services.

With commencement quickly approaching, NYIT has helped students prepare applications and perfect their interviewing skills.
