NYIT Welcomes Nederlander Cultural Trade & Industry Exchange

New York, N.Y. (Jan. 12, 2012)—Chinese cultural officials and industry executives sampled distance learning technology and a state-of-the-art audiovisual experience at New York Institute of Technology yesterday as they toured the city and made a special stop at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway.

“You’re interested in culture, theater, management, and perhaps a little bit of technology, which is our last name, but I’d especially like to welcome you to an American institution of higher learning," said NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., in a previously recorded greeting to the delegation. 

NYIT hosted the visit as part of the second Cultural Trade & Industry Exchange program, a training program designed by China's Ministry of Culture and Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment to introduce China’s theater professionals, policy makers, and educational experts to the business side of Broadway.

While at the university, participants toured the Manhattan campus, attended a demonstration of the distance learning process led by NYIT Department of Fine Arts Chair Peter Voci, M.F.A, and learned about the programming and technologies available at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway.

Recognizing that this was “a spectacular time in New York and in the world for higher education and global collaborations,” Guiliano shared with visitors NYIT’s eagerness “to collaborate with China in sharing education, expertise, and producing, in a global environment, the human capital to make our lives all more pleasant.”

The Cultural Trade & Industry Exchange delegation of 35 participants included representatives from China’s Beijing, Guangxi, Gansu, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shanxi, Tianjin, and Yunnan provinces and municipalities. The group was led by Robert Nederlander, Jr., president of Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment, which produces tours of Broadway shows for international markets.
