Amman, Jordan (Feb. 23, 2012)–Based on their sound investment research case, poise, and informed responses to questioning by judges, a student team from the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) School of Management won the 2012 CFA Institute Research Challenge hosted by CFA Jordan.
Under the patronage of the Amman Stock Exchange and in collaboration with the CFA Institute, participating universities competed to produce the best comprehensive valuation report on Orange Jordan (JTEL).
“CFA-Jordan organized this investment research challenge for the first time this year, and NYIT became the first university to win it,” said NYIT professor Nitin Arora, the winning team’s faculty advisor. “It's like NYIT made history as the first team landing on the ‘CFA moon’ in Jordan.”
Devised to teach university best practices in equity research, valuation, and ethics, The CFA Institute Research Challenge is also a means for leading industry professionals to train students in researching and reporting on public companies. NYIT-Amman M.B.A. students Ali-Al-Hilly, Mohammed Haj Khaili, Ibrahim Zananiri and Hagop Gharnagharian were mentored by Aram Yousef Rabadi, CFA, Senior Analyst at Al-Arabi Investment Group, prior to their Feb. 7 presentation at the Four Seasons Hotel. There, a panel of judges comprised of leading investment industry experts and CFA Charterholders evaluated the team’s presentation and submitted report against those of five other Jordanian universities.
“Congratulations to the NYIT Team for becoming the Jordan champions,” said CFA Jordan President Jameel Anz, CFA. “We are extremely proud of this inaugural challenge in Jordan and feel that we all emerged as winners after this event—we truly wish the NYIT team the best of luck in London.”
The winning team will now advance to the challenge’s Europe, Middle-East and Africa (EMEA) Regional Final on March 15, 2012, in London, where it will compete for a place at the Global Final on April 11, 2012, in New York.
