NYIT Launches Alliance with Leading Chinese Polytechnic University

NYIT Launches Alliance with Leading Chinese Polytechnic University

New York, N.Y. (Dec. 01, 2011)NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., has officially launched a collaboration with the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT).

On Nov. 30, President Guiliano signed a document of collaboration with President Ge Shirong at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway. The document will serve as a step toward joint academic programs through an exchange of academic materials, research methods, students, and faculty members.  The two universities will develop a series of undergraduate and graduate joint degree programs as well as short-study programs for students and faculty in New York and in China.  In addition, the universities have agreed to pursue the opportunity to establish an independent college in China with the approval of China’s Ministry of Education.

“This marks the latest step in NYIT’s effort to prepare students to be global citizens,” President Guiliano said.

As a member of the Chinese Ministry of Education’s “Project 211,” the multi-disciplinary CUMT represents an elite group of universities that includes roughly 6% of China’s 1,700 higher education institutions. Project 211 members train four-fifths of doctoral students in China, and aim to cultivate top talent for national, economic, and social development strategies.

The alliance builds on NYIT’s culture of global exchange, which includes a history of partnerships with China that spans more than a decade.

“The more that our faculty and students work with Chinese counterparts, the more students are prepared for careers in a changing job market,” President Guiliano said.
