NYIT Hosts Launch of Online Teaching Courses

New York, N.Y.  (January 5, 2012)  ΜΆ   NYIT will host the premiere next week of a new series of online courses designed to help professors sharpen their teaching skills.

Several NYIT faculty and students are showcased in one of the courses, which were created by Epigeum, an online course developer, and 17 leading universities. The set of nine courses will be unveiled at a day-long event at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway on Monday, January 9.

“These courses introduce new ways to help faculty create exciting material, inspire their students, and refine their classroom and online teaching,” said Francine Glazer, Assistant Provost and Director of NYIT’s Center for Teaching and Learning.

Representatives of the universities involved in developing the University and College Teaching courses, including those from Oxford University, Indiana University, and Youngstown State University, will discuss international examples of online training and discuss ways to ensure that faculty members from their institutions and others take advantage of the program they created.

“These courses ‘teach the teachers,’” said Glazer.  “They are media-rich and interactive and they include videos, case studies, and simulations.”

NYIT faculty members who are interested in using or viewing the courses should contact the Center for Teaching and Learning at ctl@nyit.edu.
