NYIT Hosts Cyber Security Experts at Conference on Sept. 15, 2010

New York, N.Y. (Aug. 18, 2010) – New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) will host its Cyber Security Conference on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway in New York City. Government officials and experts in the field of cyber security will discuss the threats surrounding cyber vulnerability as well as the latest developments to protect individuals and organizations against cyber attacks.

“We have established this conference to collaboratively tackle the problem of cyber attacks, giving students and professionals first-hand opportunities to discover and share critical intelligence on issues shaping the future of cyber security,” said Nada Anid, Ph.D., dean of NYIT’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences. “The conference also serves as an unparalleled opportunity for employers and potential employees to network across their fields of interest in an effort to advance the eradication of cyber terrorism and cyber crime.” 

Keynote Speakers include:

• Dr. Eric Cole, NYIT alumnus, will speak on “Future Trends in Network Security." The author of Hackers Beware, Hiding in Plain Sight and Network Security Bible and renowned thought leader on cyber security, Cole has more than 15 years of experience in network security consulting. His clients include international banks, Fortune 500 companies, and the CIA.
• Bill Cheswick will discuss “Rethinking Password.” The lead member of technical staff for AT&T research and co-author of Firewalls and Internet Security: Repelling the Wily Hacker, Cheswick is an expert in system software, security, communications, and visualization. His work on internet mapping was the core technology leading to the Bell Labs spin-off, Lumeta Corporation.

• “Coordinated Security: A New Paradigm" by Steve Hanna, distinguished engineer at Juniper Networks.
• "Protecting and Securing IP and Computing Inventions" by Steven Rubin (B.S.'95), patent attorney with Dilworth & Barrese, LLP.
• "Cloud Computing and Virtualization" by Dr. Paul Stirpe, co-founder of Letse.
• Panel Discussion on Current R&D in Cyber Security with Dr. Carrie Gates, vice president of research for CA Labs; Dr. Nasir Memon, professor and director of Information Systems and Internet Security (ISIS) Laboratory at NYU-Poly; Dr. Kenneth C. Brancik, director of Cyber Security Architecture and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) at The Advanced Technology Group (ATG), Northrop Grumman Information Systems (NGIS); and David B. Dewey, IBM Software Group, Tivoli Manager, Advanced Technology. Moderated by Dr. Paul Stirpe, co-Founder of Letse.

The conference will be held at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, 1871 Broadway between 61st and 62nd Streets in New York City. The conference fee is $100 prior to Aug. 25 and $120 for those who register after Aug. 25; alumni, faculty, and staff are eligible for additional discounts and students may register free of charge.

Lunch, included in the conference fee, will be held at Josephina Restaurant, 1900 Broadway between 63rd and 64th Streets. Attendees may receive five continuing education hours applicable to re-registration as a professional engineer or IT specialist.
