Who is eligible for the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program?

As a first-time college student, you may be eligible for Arthur O. Eve HEOP if you:
  • have lived in New York state for one year prior to the time of your admission to NYIT;
  • have earned or will soon earn a high school diploma or approved equivalent (GED);
  • meet the income guidelines issued by the New York State Education Department;
  • have been unable to secure admission to the major of your choice through NYIT’s regular admission procedures; and
  • demonstrate potential to succeed in college.

If you have previously attended college, you may be eligible for Arthur O. Eve HEOP if you:

  • have lived in New York state for one year prior to the time of your admission to NYIT;
  • have participated in an educational opportunity program such as SEEK/CD or EOP; and
  • earned a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

What are the requirements for Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program students?

If you are accepted into NYIT’s Arthur O. Eve HEOP program, you will have an outstanding opportunity to take charge of your future. However, with that opportunity, you will be taking on some important responsibilities, including:

  • attending a five-week, full-time summer institute just before you begin your first year at NYIT, designed to help you develop reading, writing, math, and study skills;
  • carrying a full-time course load during both the fall and spring semesters of each year you attend NYIT;
  • maintaining regular attendance at all classes, tutoring, and counseling sessions to which you are assigned; and
  • committing your full attention and dedication to the goal of completing your degree.
