Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a separate application for HEOP at NYIT?
  • No. There is a question on the NYIT Undergraduate Admission Application, or on the supplemental page that goes with the Common Application, that asks if you are interested in the Higher Education Opportunity Program. Mark “yes” as your answer to this question. It is also suggested that once your application has been submitted, you should contact the HEOP office directly at heopma@nyit.edu or at 212.261.1545.

As a transfer student, if I have been accepted by NYIT, does that mean that I am also accepted into HEOP?
  • Acceptance into HEOP is not automatic for transfer students coming from other schools’ HEOP, EOP, and SEEK programs. If you are a transfer student interested in being accepted into HEOP at NYIT and have not been contacted yet by the HEOP office, please email us at heopma@nyit.edu or call us at 212.261.1545.

Am I allowed to live in NYIT housing?
  • HEOP students at New York Institute of Technology are not permitted to apply for on campus housing. You should plan on commuting to campus from your current residence.

If I am an incoming freshman student that has been accepted by HEOP, is it mandatory for me to attend the Summer Institute?
  • Yes, all incoming HEOP freshmen must attend a one day orientation and all five weeks of the Summer Institute.

Is there a summer institute for transfer students as well?
  • There is no summer institute for incoming transfer students.

Will my classes include students who are not in HEOP?
  • You will attend the same classes as any other NYIT student, though you should not be surprised to find fellow HEOP students in the same classroom with you. As a freshman however, the tutoring you attend is held exclusively for and with HEOP students.

What do I need to fill out in order to be considered for financial aid before starting at NYIT?

Does my HEOP financial aid package cover tuition and fees?
  • Each HEOP student’s financial aid package is unique. The HEOP staff is available to discuss your financial need individually.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the HEOP office to speak with one of our staff members.
