Self-esteem is the way you perceive yourself and is made up of thoughts and feelings you have about yourself. Your self-esteem is based on your experiences with your family, friends, classmates, and co-workers. The more positively you feel about yourself, the higher your self-esteem. Self-esteem can affect the way you feel and act towards others, as well as your goals and productivity. Low self-esteem may cause you to feel self-conscious, worthless, unlovable, and incompetent. High self-esteem may enable you to feel competent, lovable, worthy, and productive. Self-esteem may be improved at any point during an individual’s lifetime.
