NYIT Scholarships

NYIT offers $40 million each year in academic scholarships and grants based on academic achievements and high scholastic potential. We review applications for admission to NYIT automatically for the scholarships listed below.

In order be eligible, you must:

  • Complete the FAFSA each year you are enrolled at NYIT (U.S. students only).
  • Be a full-time student.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA as specified by the scholarship.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements at all times.

NYIT scholarships and grants are renewable each semester, as long you meet the scholarship requirements. They are for tuition only, divided equally between fall and spring semesters. They are not applicable to summer session attendance.

Scholarships are determined by a variety of factors. The minimum academic requirements for each award are listed below.

Graduate Scholarships

President's Scholarship: $14,000 - $20,000 per year

To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).
  • Be an entering first-year student.
  • High school average of 95 or higher.
  • Minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT score of 27.

Theodore K. Steele Memorial Scholarship Program: $13,000 - $18,000 per year

To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).
  • Be an entering first-year student.
  • High school average of 90 or higher.
  • Minimum SAT score of 1140 or ACT score of 25.

NYIT Merit Scholarships and Academic Achievement Awards: $10,000 - $16,000 per year

To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).
  • Be an entering first-year student.
  • High school average of 70 or higher.
  • Minimum SAT score of 900 or ACT score of 19.

Renewal Criteria

For all first-year awards listed above
You will be eligible to receive this scholarship for a maximum of four years (or eight semesters) of continuous full-time undergraduate enrollment at NYIT. You must satisfactorily complete 12 credits each semester with no failing or incomplete grades. You must also maintain the minimum cumulative GPA as required each semester by the scholarship and/or grant as per your catalog upon admission into NYIT. NYIT scholarships and grants are for tuition only, divided equally between fall and spring semesters. They are not applicable to summer session attendance.

NYIT FIRST Scholarship: $500 one-time award

In collaboration with FIRST, NYIT offers two $500 merit-based scholarships to high school seniors who have been actively involved on a FIRST team and would like to attend NYIT. This scholarship may be used for a student in any undergraduate program offered in NYIT’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences. This scholarship is a one-time award and is in addition to any other scholarship from NYIT for which students may qualify. Each recipient must meet the regular academic requirements for admission to the college. Complete the application. All applications must be received by May 15.

To qualify:

  • Be a senior in high school.
  • Have participated on a FIRST team.
  • Apply and be admitted to NYIT as a full-time student in one of the following programs:
    Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, Engineering Management, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Management
    (However, you do not need to have already been admitted at the time you apply for this scholarship.)
  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (on a scale up to 4.0)
  • Minimum SAT score of 1000 or ACT score of 20.
  • Submit a completed FAFSA to NYIT.

Apply by May 15:
To apply for the NYIT FIRST Scholarship, complete the application package, including:

  • A completed NYIT FIRST Scholarship Application including high school transcript and SAT/ACT score report.
  • A 500 word essay regarding how your FIRST experience has affected your career goals OR essay describing your FIRST involvement, co-curricular activities and any academic honors.
  • A letter of recommendation from an adult mentor/coach on your FIRST team

Transfer Scholarships: $2,000 - $16,000

If you receive this award, you are eligible for a maximum of three years (six semesters) of continuous full-time undergraduate enrollment at NYIT.
To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).
  • Earned at least 24 credits from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Readmitted students are not eligible.

If you have a cumulative GPA in the ranges listed below, you may qualify for awards.

A transfer scholarship will be renewed each semester provided you satisfactorily complete at least 12 credits and maintain the respective scholarship's appropriate cumulative GPA with no incomplete or failing grades. The dollar value of the scholarships will be reviewed each year and may be changed. The following cumulative GPA is required for the renewal of the transfer scholarship:

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarships: up to $2,000

A limited number of $2,000 yearly scholarships are granted to incoming transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).
To qualify:

  • Earned at least 24 credits from an accredited college or university.
  • Maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Submit a PTK scholarship application, proof of PTK membership, and an essay to be considered.

 

NYIT Scholar Incentive Awards: $3,000 - $4,000

This award is for full-time undergraduate students who were not award any other NYIT scholarship upon enrollment. If you have demonstrated your commitment to NYIT and have achieved academic success after earning 30-59 credits at NYIT, then you may be awarded between $3,000 and $4,000.

Awards will be granted each semester. You cannot receive two NYIT merit-based academic scholarships concurrently. In the event that you may qualify for more than one scholarship, the one with the highest dollar value will be awarded.
If you qualify, you will receive this award for a maximum of three years (six semesters) of continuous enrollment in a four-year program.

To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).
  • Be a full-time matriculated undergraduate NYIT student with 30-59 credits applicable to your degree.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. If you have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, then you may receive a higher scholarship amount.

 

NYIT Academic Scholarship Program: $3,000 - $4,000

This program recognizes and honors undergraduate students who have demonstrated a commitment to NYIT. You may receive an award if you have shown consistent academic success after earning 60 or more NYIT credits applicable toward your degree. If you qualify, you will receive this award for a maximum of two years (four semesters).

To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).
  • Be a full-time matriculated undergraduate NYIT student with 60 or more credits applicable to your degree.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
     

NYIT Grant: Amount Varies

This grant is awarded to a limited number of current undergraduate students based upon financial need.
To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress and be eligible for federal financial aid.
     

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship

Created in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and in recognition of his beliefs, this scholarship is granted to low-income minority undergraduate and graduate students with high levels of academic achievement, leadership ability, and outstanding character. Application requirements and awards are determined on a semester-by-semester basis.
To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).

Graduate Scholar Award (GSA): up to $3,000 per year

This award recognizes the talents of entering graduate students who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement. It consists of up to $3,000 per-year tuition-only credit for a maximum of three years (six semesters) of continuous full-time enrollment (nine credits). Awards will be prorated for students taking less than nine credits.

To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA (U.S. students only).
  • Be accepted to a matriculated graduate degree program.
  • Have earned a bachelor’s degree with a 3.3 CGPA.
  • If your program requires a GRE, then you must have earned a high enough combined score on the verbal and quantitative sections as determined by your academic department. M.B.A. applicants must have a minimum GMAT score of 400.
  • International students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 79 or a 6 on IELTS. All students must be fully accepted without academic conditions.

Renewal Criteria
This award applies to fall and spring semesters only and is renewable each semester as long as you complete the FAFSA and the financial aid process. Awards will be renewed on an annual basis if you maintain a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA and satisfactorily complete the courses for which you are registered, with no failing or incomplete grades.

 

Alumni Recognition Award: up to $2,550 per year

This award acknowledges NYIT's commitment to the professional success of its alumni. It is offered to students who hold an NYIT bachelor's or master's degree and are fully matriculated in one of NYIT’s graduate degree-granting programs. It consists of a $425 tuition-only credit for every three credits that you are registered for, up to a maximum of $1,275 per semester. The award will be allotted on an annual basis for a maximum of three years or six semesters (summer not included) depending on you meeting all of the following criteria required each semester. This award is not applicable to students enrolled in a combined program in which a bachelor's degree has not yet been attained.

To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA each year (U.S. students only).
  • Complete the Alumni Recognition Award application each academic year. Deadlines: Aug. 15 for the fall semester; Jan. 15 for the spring semester.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and satisfactorily complete the classes for which you are registered with no failing or incomplete grades.
  • Be enrolled in at least three graduate credits.

 

Life Science Achievement Award: up to $3,975 per year

This scholarship is awarded only to students who are in matriculated in the B.S. in Life Sciences dual degree programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies. This award does not apply to the Combined Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Program (B.S./D.O.) program. This award bridges the gap between your undergraduate phase and your graduate or professional phase.

Beginning with your first professional phase, this scholarship provides up to $3,975 per year, including summer, based on full-time attendance for the completion of your undergraduate degree program.

To qualify:

  • Complete the FAFSA each year (U.S. students only).
  • Maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA.
  • Satisfactorily complete the classes you registered for in the previous semester.
  • Be matriculated in the B.S. in Life Sciences dual degree programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies.
