Students who are taking 6 or more credits during the summer session may request to be packaged for the summer term. The Office of Financial Aid will determine the students’ eligibility for federal and/or private loans for this period of enrollment. Unless the student is graduating or changing enrollment status, the student will be packaged for two terms at a time, either summer/fall or spring/summer.
In order to package the student, the Office of Financial Aid needs a valid FAFSA on file for the appropriate academic year as well as a completed Seasonal Loan Request Form. The Seasonal Loan Request Form is what enables the office to determine the cost of attendance and budget for the terms being packaged. Students must complete the form in full in order to be processed.
Students should understand that Stafford loans taken during summer sessions still count towards aggregate loan limits and thus may result in the student using up his or her eligibility more quickly than the student would in a traditional two semester year. Students should also be aware that most scholarships and grants are only offered during the Fall and Spring semesters. One exception to this is Federal Pell Grant for eligible students.
Seasonal Loan Request Forms can be found under the miscellaneous section of the
downloadable forms/links webpage. There is also a link included on the NYITConnect scroll bar
. We strongly recommend students to speak with a counselor when filling out the form as they may have questions pertinent to their loan application.
